International STEAM Research Congress

Now in its eighth year, the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) continues to champion international research collaboration through its flagship event, the International STEAM Research Congress (iSTEAM+). Originally focused on core disciplines in Science, Technology, Engineering, Agri-Fisheries, and Mathematics (STEAM), this year’s congress broadens its scope to encompass equally vital fields such as health sciences (e.g., nutrition, dietetics, and allied disciplines) and social sciences (e.g., economics, humanities, and related areas). The 8th iSTEAM+ serves as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, scientific discovery, and multi-sectoral partnerships that contribute to a stronger knowledge economy and a more resilient regional innovation ecosystem.

This year’s theme, “Harnessing AI and Responsible Innovations for a Transformative Future” reflects the growing need for interdisciplinary and ethical approaches in addressing global and local challenges. It highlights the importance of professional networking and collaboration, particularly in aligning Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE) initiatives with the pressing development needs of the region, the country, and the broader global community.

As part of EVSU’s strategic direction under the leadership of University President Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, the congress supports the institutional vision for EVSU to become a National University for Resilience and Climate Action (NURCA). This vision calls for research and innovation that are not only excellent but also responsive to environmental, social, and economic vulnerabilities, particularly in climate-vulnerable regions like Eastern Visayas.

In line with this goal, EVSU strengthens its collaboration with the Eastern Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (EVCIEERD)—a key partner in expanding the reach and impact of the research congress. The evolving landscape of higher education underscores the need for higher education institutions to position their RIE programs as agents of inclusive and sustainable development.

The 8th iSTEAM+ is a timely opportunity to mobilize science-based solutions, reinforce academe-community-government linkages, and promote responsible innovation that advances resilience and climate action—key pillars of EVSU’s identity as an emerging national university.
